![]() ![]() Yes – I sympathise with Jason, it’s incredibly bad luck and he wrecked his bike twice and was injured. On the same corner in two consecutive races, O’Halloran was passed on the inside resulting in him colliding with the bike that had passed him and ending up in the gravel. However the penalties against Hickman and Bridewell have me confused. ![]() Whilst the rule was correctly implemented as it is written today, this instance highlighted a flaw in the rule itself – only the lead rider can instigate overtaking the safety car and the riders behind cannot safely hold back when the rider in the lead decides to accelerate. ![]() Last weekend was hard to take when Glenn Irwin was removed from the podium for overtaking the safety car – this rule needs a rethink. I’m learning that after many years following racing and having raced myself at an amateur level for a few years, I clearly don’t understand the rules too well. And two of the showdown riders are highly unlikely to ride at Dony. Skinner is lucky to still have genitals after he was dragged into Iddon’s rear shock crotch-first. O’Halloran was too beaten up to ride in race three (although I expect they were also clean out of spare parts). Three riders were hospitalised – Iddon with a head injury, MacKenzie with a broken femur and Skinner with multiple hand injuries. Two of the eight showdown riders came away with no points. There were 16 DNFs across three races plus a disqualification. By Race Three only 22 were fit to take their place at the start line. Blind crests, multiple undulations, big trees and two tight chicanes (one with a downhill entry) all but guarantee that big-bike races here are eventful. Built into the scenery, it cocks a snook at high capacity bikes and associated safety concerns. Oulton is in the category of track defined as ‘if they proposed building it today, they wouldn’t be allowed’. ![]()
